How wonderful to go home again! My grandparents, Walter and Lilian Cooper lived in Jasmine Cottage, Nether Wallop. Walter was church warden at St. Andrews for many years and bailiff to Lord Bolton, before working on the Garlogs Estate. We've been told the Cooper family occupied Jasmine Cottage for 400 years!!! My parents were Walter and Gladys Woodford, nee Cooper, in The Bungalow on Heathman Str. next to Hinwood's shop. My older brother, Richard and Heather now live in Grateley. Our grandfather, Wm. Woodford who laid the corner stone at Wallop school, farmed at Haydown Farm. Our father later worked many years for the Osmond family at Broadgate Farm. Our mother, prior to marriage taught school in Stockbridge, Wellow, then in the 1950s in Andover and finally at Wallop school. Girls my age were Mary Cooper, Pat Murphy, Nancy Plumb, Betty Smith, Nesta Cates and Queenie Stillwell. Nancy and Pat both went to Australia and in 1992 we all spent a day together in Sydney. In 1948 my husband Michael Kolodziej, Polish Airforce, Sqn 304 and I left England for the U.S. We have four wonderful daughters, seven grand children and one great grandson scattered across the country in New Jersey, Michigan, Florida, New York, North Carolina and Illinois. Friends in Nether Wallop are Sheila Mouland, Eileen Wilmott, Susan and Richard Osmond. I still remember the names of most occupants of the houses back in the 1940s. Your guest book is most interesting with Cooper and Kent queries. A Mr. Kent was connected in someway to our Cooper family but no idea how. I am in touch with someone researching Coopers of Over Wallop so will pass your web address along. I recently discovered a web site naming hidden objects and one mentioned was found on Bent Str. by Judy Maynard, whose name I see on your site. Greetings to all Wallopians where ever they may be, from Michigan. U.S.A. Pam nee Woodford

Hi Everyone, I too had ancestors from Over Wallop and surrounding area and am keen to find any information on them, or even any descendants of theirs. Their family names were PADWICK and I'm also interested in CANN's from the area too. The first Padwick I have was John Padwick born in 1812 in Over Wallop, I only know his mother was called Mary. Two of John's son's married girls from the Cann Family. Please look at the history so far on my website and if you think you have any links or history and news then please contact me. This website has given me the opportunity to see and read about the history of the area that they came from which is fantastic! Keep up the good work! All the best Regards Tina Padwick

I was so delighted to see a write up of The Wallops, my two aunts lived in Yew Tree cottage which was opposite the local pub. In my childhood I spent many days visiting my aunts with my parents. Yew Tree Cottage was in our family for 400yrs. Our name was Beacham, but my aunt always spelt it Beauchamp, which i believe was the correct way. Both my aunts & many more of my relatives are buried in the church cementery. I with my sister became the owners of the cottage after the passing of my aunts, but it was sold shortly after, we have beautiful pictures of it after & before it was renovated. So my memories are many & I will visit The Wallops next time I come to England.

I have been very interested in this site as my maternal Grandfathers ancesters all settled in this area of the Wallops primarily I am told in Over Wallop. The family home was Yew Tree Cottage which is mentioned in the history of Over Wallop. It had members of the Beacham family there at one time dating back to the 1600's. It was sold by my Mother's 2 sisters in the last 20 years or so when the last maiden Aunt who ran the village laundry from Yew Tree Cottage passed away. Her Name I believe was Bertha Beacham. My Mother's cousin David Beacham has done a great deal of research on the Beacham family tree and sent me a copy of a news paper clipping when the house was sold in recent years. another cousin who know lives in Canada has several modern pictures of the house as it looks now. Hello, I am from Long Beach, California United States and I am very interested in Over Wallop because I am further researching a family tree created by my great-grandfather for the Cooper and Hillier family. I really love this site, it has loads of information on Over Wallop it is very exciting to see the exact same town (advanced a couple of years) where my ancestors came from. I would love to visit over wallop someday! I am wondering if there are other Coopers there or stories about the Coopers that lived there. Thank you so much for making this site.

How wonderful to find the Wallop Parish News available to read online! And so good to see its format virtually unchanged since I typed it between 1996 and 2000.

Hi there, A pretty little web-site. I was looking at your website as I found a reference to The Wallops in some houses for sale adverts. I am shortly to retire and will return to the UK in March 2006 and hopefully will find a nice place close to a village similar to the ones shown on your site. The photos remind me of what I am missing, as at present it is minus 33 degrees here though we are all used to it. It strange how when the temperature rises to -10 it actually seems like spring....... Crazy but there it is, your site warms my heart and brings forward memories. Keep up the good work

I visited Nether Wallop on a coach tour in 1996. We were plagued by one of the worst years for rain in I think 57 years, (or so we were told.) But I did enjoy the charm of the thatched roof homes and I continue to enjoy the photos I took between rain drops. It is my hope to retrace my tour's stops on a future trip. So beware of someone driving a rent-a-car on the wrong side of the road gawking at things you all take for granted. What a pretty little village you have!

Lovely website and great for someone like me who's researching my family tree. So far I've traced them back to the Over Wallop Area and a John PADWICK born in 1812... and I'm still searching for any desendents of John in any of the Padwick Families from this area. King Lane seems to have been popular for them with father and son living next door to each other at one point. If anyone reads this and has any information please get in touch!!! All the best Tina

Congratulations on having your own website - many bigger places do not. I'm investigating places the Astridges lived in days gone by (one was you village policeman) while planning an Astridge reunion in October of 2007.
